Skye
/skaɪ/
/skaɪ/
- the largest island in the Inner Hebrides, off the coast of north-west Scotland. Its attractive lakes and mountains make it a popular tourist centre. It is famous as the island to which Bonny Prince Charlie escaped in a boat after the battle of Culloden. A bridge, built in the 1990s, now connects Skye to the mainland of Scotland.
