  1. a large teaching hospital in central London, established in the early 12th century and later named after St Thomas Becket. It moved to its present buildings opposite the Houses of Parliament in 1871. Since 1993 it has been managed as part of a hospital trust with Guy's Hospital and King's College Hospital.
