  1. (1947-2018) a British Labour politician. She became a Member of Parliament in 1992. She was Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport from 2001 to 2007 with responsibility for reforming the gambling and licensing laws and for deciding how the BBC would be paid for in the future. In 2007 she became Minister for the Olympics, Minister for London and Paymaster General, and in 2009 Minister for the Cabinet Office. She became a life peer in 2015.
