  1. the informal name for a group of Americans known for their humour. They met regularly in the 1920s and 1930s at the Algonquin Hotel in New York, and the group included the writers Dorothy Parker and Robert Benchley. A film about the group, Mrs Parker and the Vicious Circle was made in 1994.
