  1. a battle fought on 18 June 1815 in which the British, led by the Duke of Wellington, and the Prussians defeated the French army of Napoleon. It was the last battle of the Napoleonic Wars and took place near the village of Waterloo, not far from Brussels in Belgium. It is seen as one of the most important victories in British history and it made Wellington a national hero.
