  1. born Edward Hyde (1609-74) an English politician and historian who was the chief adviser of King Charles II. He was Lord Chancellor from 1660 to 1667 when he lost his influence over the king and had to leave the country. He then wrote his Life and the History of the Rebellion and Civil Wars in England.
