the Ffestiniog Railway

- a small railway line in north-west Wales which was used in the 19th century to carry slate (= a type of smooth grey stone used for covering roofs) down the Vale of Ffestiniog to the coast. The scenery is very beautiful and in the late 20th century the old steam trains were brought back into use as a tourist attraction.
