the Fosbury flop

/ðə ˌfɑːzbəri ˈflɑːp/
- (in sport) a way of doing the high jump. The person jumps backwards over the bar with the legs following the upper body. It is named after the US athlete Dick Fosbury who first used this method at the 1968 Olympics and won a gold medal. It is now widely used by other athletes.
