  1. a daily newspaper in Britain that expresses socialist views. It started in 1930 as the official newspaper of the Communist Party of Britain but became independent in 1945. Until 1966 it was called the Daily Worker. The newspaper is run as a cooperative society (= it is owned by its readers, who invest in the newspaper by buying shares) and does not allow advertising by commercial companies. see also Socialist Worker
