    CultureThe rifle was a long gun developed in the US by Oliver F Winchester, the first model of which was produced in 1866 by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. It was especially successful because it could be fired a number of times without the need to put bullets in each time. Winchesters were widely used in the American civil war and are often seen in western films.
