  1. (1903-95) a British conservative politician and Prime Minister (1963-4). He was a Member of Parliament when he became Lord Home on the death of his father in 1951 and moved to the House of Lords. But in 1963 he gave up his title so that he could return to the House of Commons as Sir Alec Douglas-Home and become Prime Minister. In 1974 he was made a life peer and returned to the House of Lords as Lord Home.
