- the main character in a British comic strip created by Reg Smythe (1917-1998) which first appeared in the Daily Mirror newspaper in 1957. The cartoon also appeared in newspapers in the US. Andy Capp drinks a lot, is very lazy, and is unfair to his wife Flo. He always wears a flat cap and has a cigarette hanging from his mouth.
