  1. (1907-90) a US film actor known for playing strong characters. Her films include Double Indemnity (1944), Sorry, Wrong Number (1948) and Executive Suite (1954). She was also a star of the television western series The Big Valley (1965-9). Stanwyck received a special Oscar in 1982.
