  1. a very large building in Battersea, London, with four tall chimneys (= structures through which smoke is carried away through the roof of a building). It was built in 1937 to produce electricity for south London, but it was closed down in the 1980s. In 2012 the building was sold for development and was converted into apartments, offices, shops, restaurants and other facilities.
