  1. (1927-87) a US film director who won an Oscar for Cabaret (1972). He began on Broadway as a dancer and choreographer and won nine Tony awards. He directed and designed the dances for the films Sweet Charity (1969) and All That Jazz (1979) (which was based on his own life). In 1999 Fosse, a Broadway musical based on his best works won three Tony awards.
