- a large town on the coast of East Sussex in southern England. In the 18th century it became a fashionable place for people to swim, and it is still a popular place for people to spend their holidays. Its well-known buildings include the Royal Pavilion and the Palace Pier, and it is also famous for its Regency architecture.
