- (1906-76) an English film director best remembered for his film of the Graham Greene novel The Third Man. His other films include Our Man in Havana (1959) and Oliver!(1968), a musical version of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, for which Reed won an Oscar. He was made a knight in 1952.
