  1. a US organization that aims to support people who are dying or have a terminal illness, to help them have the best death possible and to be in control of what happens to them. The organization was established in 2005 when two other organizations, End-of Life Choices and Compassion in Dying joined together. End-of Life Choices was originally known as the Hemlock Society, founded in 1980.
