  1. (1867-1955) a famous US baseball player (1890-1911). He was a pitcher (= player who throws the ball to be hit) who played in more games (906) and had more wins (511) than any other player in the history of the game. His real name was Denton True Young. His nickname'Cy' was a short form of 'Cyclone', a wind storm. He played for the Cleveland Indians, the St Louis Cardinals, the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Braves. He was chosen for the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937.
