  1. Dwight David Eisenhower (1890-1969) the 34th President of the US (1953-61) and a famous general. His popular name was Ike. He was the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in the Second World War and directed the Allies' plans for D-Day. As a Republican, Eisenhower was strongly against Communism but he ended the Korean War. He is also remembered for sending US soldiers into Little Rock, Arkansas, to protect African American children in white schools. He was a popular president, known for his friendly smile and mild manner.
