  1. a US jazz funk group who were especially popular in the 1970s. Their album That's the Way of the World (1975) included the song Shining Star, which won a Grammy award. Other albums included I Am (1979) and Let's Groove (1981). The group split up in 1984 but came together again in 1987. They were chosen for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000.
