'Gentleman Jim' Corbett

- (1866-1933) a US boxer. He became World Heavyweight Champion (1892-7) when he defeated John L Sullivan in the first contest fought with gloves and under the Queensberry Rules. He lost his title to Bob Fitzsimmons in the first filmed fight, and then became an actor. He was born James John Corbett and was called 'Gentleman Jim' because of his elegant manner.
