  1. a US non-profit organization, begun in 1902 by Edgar Helms, a Methodist minister. It operates in the US and in many other countries to provide training and employment for people who find it hard to get work, for example because they have a disability or medical condition or because they have committed crimes in the past. It collects money by asking people to give clothing and household items which are then sold in Goodwill stores.
