- a US film (1952) which is considered to be one of the best westerns ever made. It was directed by Fred Zinnemann. Gary Cooper won an Oscar in the role of Marshall Will Kane, who finds out that nobody in the town will help him against four criminals who are coming to kill him. Grace Kelly played his wife. Many Americans saw the film's story as a criticism of people in the 1950s who failed to oppose McCarthyism.
