- (1899-1981) a US song writer, piano player and singer. His songs were usually slow and beautiful. The best known is Stardust (1927) and others include Lazy River (1931) and In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening (1951) which won an Oscar. Carmichael was chosen for the Songwriters'Hall of Fame in 1971.
