Hopalong Cassidy

- a character in a series of US Western books, films and television programmes. He was created by the writer Clarence E Mulford and used in 26 books written between 1912 and 1956. William Boyd (1898-1972) played him in 66 films, beginning in 1935. Hopalong, also called 'Hoppy' by his friends, wore black and was very polite.
