  1. (1908-2006) a US economist, born in Canada. He advised President John F Kennedy and was the US ambassador in India (1961-63). Galbraith said that governments should spend more to help poor and unemployed people. He criticized the power of international companies and the desire for continuous economic growth. His books include The Affluent Society (1958), The Anatomy of Power (1983) and A Short History of Financial Euphoria (1990).
