John Logie Baird

- (1888-1946) a Scottish inventor who is remembered mainly for his work on early forms of television in the 1920s and 1930s. The BBC began using Baird's system in 1929, but by 1937 Marconi-EMI had replaced his mechanical system by a much more efficient electronic one.
