- (1909-76) an American who wrote the words to more than 1 000 popular songs. They include Jeepers Creepers (1938), That Old Black Magic (1942), Laura (1945), Come Rain or Come Shine (1946), Something's Gotta Give (1955) and Moon River (1961). Mercer won four Oscars.
