- a US heavy metal band which formed in 1972. Members of the band painted their faces, coloured their hair and performed in a wild way on stage. This included destroying guitars, breathing fire and letting false blood come from their mouths. Their albums have included KISS (1974), Unmasked (1980) and Carnival of Souls (1997). see also KISS principle
