  1. (1914-2001) a US musician who played the harmonica (= a small instrument held against the mouth). He moved to Britain in the 1950s. Several composers, including Malcolm Arnold and Ralph Vaughan Williams, wrote music specially for him. Adler wrote and played music for a number of films, including Genevieve (1953), A High Wind in Jamaica (1965) and My Life (1992).
