/ˌlɜːrnər ˈdraɪvər/
(British English) (also learner British and North American English)
- a person who is learning to drive who has not yet passed the driving test
- The learner driver often grips the wheel too tightly.
CultureIn Britain learner drivers may not drive without having a qualified driver with them and must display L-plates (= square signs with a large red letter L on a white background) on the front and back of the vehicle they are driving. Plates with the letter L or P in green are also available, to show that a driver has recently passed the driving test.Definitions on the go
