- (1903-41) a famous US baseball player for the New York Yankees team. Gehrig was called 'the iron man' because he once played 2 130 games in a row, a record that was not broken until 56 years later. He died of a disease of the muscles which is now often called Lou Gehrig's disease see also ‘Babe’ Ruth
