Louisville

- the largest city in the US state of Kentucky, on the Ohio River. It was settled in 1778 and named after King Louis XVI of France, and the University of Louisville was established in 1798. The US used the town as a military base during the Civil War. The Kentucky Derby is held in Louisville, and the city produces bourbon (= whisky made from corn grain), cigarettes, paint and household electrical items.
