  1. a comic novel (1954) by Kingsley Amis. The main character, Jim Dixon, is a young college teacher who dislikes his job and falls in love with another man's girlfriend. The funniest moments in the book are when Jim gets drunk and behaves badly in front of the senior teachers. The book was made into a film in 1957 by the Boulting brothers and into a television film in 2003.
