- (1923-77) a US opera singer, with Greek parents. Her strong voice and personality helped to make opera more popular in the US. She had a long romantic friendship with Aristotle Onassis, who later married Jackie Kennedy. Callas is remembered as one of the greatest singers of the 20th century.
