  1. (1850-1917) the first US citizen to become a Roman Catholic saint. She was born Francesca Cabrini in Lombardy, Italy. She became a nun, began the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart and went to the US in 1889 to continue her work. She was named a saint in 1946.
