  1. (1915-83) a US blues singer who played the guitar and wrote songs, often with a sexual theme. His powerful style influenced many other rock musicians. He first became famous with his song Rollin' Stone (1950), a name later taken by the Rolling Stones group and the music magazine Rolling Stone. Waters formed a band in 1950, and his later hits included I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man (1954) and Got My Mojo Working (1957).
