  1. a television news programme that is broadcast in Britain on BBC Two late every evening from Monday to Friday. It usually includes a serious discussion about an important news item. Its aim is to make sense of the day's news, to try to explain the detail of current events and hold to account those responsible for them. Some of its presenters are well known for asking politicians difficult questions.
