  1. a member of a native North American people in the US state of Oklahoma who lived in the Ohio River valley and then along the Osage River in Missouri. The US government moved them to the Oklahoma reservation (= an area of land kept separate for native North Americans to live in) in 1872, where oil was discovered on their land at the beginning of the 20th century.
