- (1941-67) a US singer of soul music. His successful records included I've Been Loving You Too Long (1965) and My Girl (1966). The magazine Melody Maker chose him as the 'World No 1 Male Singer' in 1967, just before he died in a plane crash. The year after his death, he won a Grammy award for The Dock of the Bay.
