  1. a character in a series of children's books and BBC television programmes written by Ivor Wood (1932-2004) and John Cunliffe (1933-2018). He is a postman (= a person whose job is delivering letters) in a village in the English countryside, who is very friendly to everybody he meets. He also has a black and white cat called Jess.
