- a British national radio station of the BBC. It broadcasts regular news and weather reports as well as plays, comedy shows, live broadcasts of important events, and other programmes. It was established in 1967 and before that was known as the Home Service. It broadcasts from 5.30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Between 1 a.m and 5.30 a.m. Radio 4 broadcasts programmes from the BBC World Service.
