  1. (1902-84) the American who developed McDonald's into the biggest fast food restaurant company in the world. In 1955 he bought the company and its name from two brothers, Richard and Maurice McDonald, who had one restaurant in San Bernardino, California. Kroc created the gold arches which are the McDonald's symbol, and established a Hamburger University to train the company's employees.
