- (1906-89) an Irish writer of plays, novels and poetry. He is best known for his plays, including Waiting for Godot (1952) and Endgame (1957). He settled in France early in his career and much of his work was written in French. He was given the Nobel Prize for literature in 1969.“Nothing happens, nobody comes, nobody goes, it's awful.”
