- a US prison for the state of New York. It is in Ossining, New York, and its first building was completed in 1925 by prisoners used as workers. Many of the state's most dangerous criminals have been sent to Sing Sing because of its strong discipline. Its name was officially changed to Ossining State Correctional Facility in 1969, but most people still use the old name
