St Lawrence Seaway

- a major water transport system for the US and Canada. It was built by the two countries and opened in 1959. It connects the St Lawrence River with Lake Ontario and then, with the Great Lakes system, forms a channel 2 342 miles/3 768 kilometres long. Large ships use it to travel between the Atlantic Ocean and the Great Lakes.
