  1. (1927-91) a US jazz musician who played the saxophone. He was a leader of the 'West Coast Cool' type of jazz, and his successes included Early Autumn (1948), The Girl from Ipanema (1963) and I Remember You (1991). Getz played with Benny Goodman, Woody Herman and other famous bands. He received three Emmy awards (1962, 1964 and 1991) and was chosen for the Jazz Hall of Fame in 1986.
