- a US film (1976) which was the first big success for Martin Scorsese, who directed it, and the actor Robert De Niro. It won the prize for the best film at the Cannes Film Festival. De Niro plays Travis Bickle, an ordinary New York taxi driver who becomes depressed by all the evil and crime he sees and tries to fight it in a violent way. Jodie Foster plays a young girl working as a prostitute whom he tries to rescue.
