  1. a social and artistic movement in Britain in the second half of the 19th century, led by William Morris and John Ruskin. Following the Industrial Revolution, when more and more things were made by machines, the aim of the Arts and Crafts Movement was to make things such as furniture and silver objects by hand that were beautiful as well as useful.
